Developer wants to designate its Milton land a Brownfield. Residents say no way. An effort to incorporate a section of the city of Milton into an existing Brownfield site by designating it a Brownsfield area failed Tuesday when citizens spoke out against the stigma the term carries and the potential that land values could fall for properties around the parcel in question. by Tom McLaughlin Pensacola News Journal (FL) March 17, 2023 An effort to incorporate a section of the city of Milton into an existing Brownfield site by designating it a Brofield area failed Tuesday when citizens spoke out against the stigma the term carries and the potential that land values could fall for properties around the parcel in question. It was the second time that the Timshel Development Group had failed in its effort to get the boundaries of the city's existing Brownfield area amended to include the land upon which it is building its Tranquility at Milton apartment complex. The first effort, in 2021, failed for many of the same reasons cited at Tuesday's meeting. ... An important difference between a Brownfield site and a Brownfield area is that a Brownfield site is so designated because pollution, contamination or blight exist within its borders. Areas where contamination exists within the Milton Brownfield site include properties polluted by leaking fuel tanks such as those near the soon-to-be demolished Whittle Building.
