Subject: [CPEO-BIF] Irving Street affordable housing, San Francisco, California
 
[I consider myself one of the Bay Area’s most successful advocates for affordable housing development, but I’m supporting the neighbors. PCE in soil gas and indoor air at and near this site exceed established screening levels, putting neighbors and future residents at risk. It would be relatively simple and inexpensive to install a soil vapor extraction system before construction. It saddens me to see a developer with a positive reputation and both local and state officials misrepresent the investigations that have been conducted at the site. - LS]

As S.F. aims for more housing on city’s west side, an embattled project hits another roadblock

Sunset District neighbors who have spent 30 months battling a 90-unit affordable housing project on Irving Street have filed another appeal. This one may be their last chance to slow down the development on San Francisco’s west side.

After unsuccessfully seeking a temporary injunction against the development in San Francisco Superior Court, and losing an appeal of the project’s demolition permit, the Mid-Sunset Neighborhood Association has appealed the construction site permit.

Flo Kimmerling, who heads up the neighborhood association, said the group wants the developer, the Tenderloin Neighborhood Development Corp., to agree to a higher level of environmental remediation before construction starts.

“Clean it up before you build it up,” said Kimmerling.
