OSHA working with Master Lock to address TCE workplace safety concerns after complaint filed
Master Lock workers reported symptoms of TCE exposure to OSHA which has now led the department to work with the company to address concerns

As Master Lock works to shutter its factory, its workers have filed a complaint with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration alleging that they have been exposed to unsafe levels of dangerous carcinogen that forced an unprecedented evacuation of apartments next door. 

After receiving the complaint on June 23, the federal agency directed the factory owner to carry out an investigation to determine if there are unsafe levels of known-carcinogen trichloroethylene, or TCE, by June 30. Master Lock has acknowledged historical contamination in the factory. 

More than a month after this directive, Scott Allen, spokesperson for OSHA Milwaukee, was not able to provide information on that investigation saying the department is working with Master Lock “to address workplace safety concerns.” He added that Master Lock is cooperating.
