Contaminated water, a million-dollar rental deal and Andrews: a town with an uncertain future

ANDREWS, Ind.  — An unusual meeting took center stage Wednesday in the small town of Andrews, Indiana. 

The usually quiet town hall building held a special session — a full house, including Huntington County Commissioner Tom Wall, a far cry from their normal attendance.

The town has been locked in a battle to get clean water after its groundwater was contaminated by Trichloroethylene (TCE), and the only question is will anyone help them get out of their predicament?

There is a plume of the chemical sitting under the city, which is noted in court documents, but while the city says defense contractor giant Raytheon is liable, that will ultimately be for the courts to decide — a form of potential justice that may be too slow to solve issues Andrews’ residents currently have.
