EPA plans next cleanup at Valmont Superfund site this year By KENT JACKSON Hazleton Standard Speaker (PA) January 10, 2025 A new project to remove cancer-causing chemicals from groundwater at a Superfund site beneath a former upholstery plant in Valmont Industrial Park could begin this spring, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency said. Work at the former Chromatex plant, 423 Jaycee Drive, West Hazleton, will take three years to finish and cost $32.2 million, EPA said. Money became available for the cleanup last year through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, which allocated $3.5 billion for Superfund sites.
