Supporters of Fargo air base brace for 'hit list'By Jeff Zent Fargo Forum (ND) April 19, 2005 The military wants to keep the Air National Guard in every state, a plan that could save Fargo's 119th Fighter Wing base from closure, U.S. Rep Earl Pomeroy said Monday. "We were told that every state will have an Air Guard that is ready, relevant and engaged," said Pomeroy, D-N.D. "We took that as a good sign." Fargo's 119th Fighter Wing, also called the Happy Hooligans, is the only Air National Guard unit serving in North Dakota. Sen. Byron Dorgan, D-N.D. said he remains "cautiously optimistic" that the state's two Air Force bases in Grand Forks and Minot, and Fargo's 119th Fighter Wing, will survive the 2005 Base Realignment and Closure round. Members of the Fargo-Moorhead Air National Guard Support Group held a news conference Monday, about four weeks before the Department of Defense releases its list of bases targeted for closure or realignment. ...
