CONCORD AND FAIRFIELD AWAIT BASE CLOSURE DECISIONBay City News Service CBS 5 (San Francisco, CA) May 11, 2005 Fairfield and Concord are hoping for very different outcomes from this week's expected announcement of national military base closures by the Pentagon. Fairfield and the surrounding areas of Solano County hope that Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld sees the strategic value of Travis Air Force Base, which also contributes more than a billion annually to the local economy. Concord, on the other hand, hopes Rumsfeld will finally close its largely empty Naval Weapons Station, opening up more than 12,000 acres for economic development by the city. ...
