Base environmental concerns worry Groton residents WFSB 3 May 16, 2005 GROTON -- As the federal government plans to shut down the navy base, many questions will be left behind. The navy has been dumping all sorts of things on the submarine base for the past 137 years and neighbors are wondering how bad the base is contaminated. The base is on the Environmental Protection Agency's national priorities list for cleanup and there are 16 known potentially hazardous waste disposal areas on this 600 acre base. ...
