Cleaning up the Thames if sub base closes|
Tina Detelj WTNH-TV 8 (New London, CT) June 10, 2005
There has been a lot of attention lately on the cost to clean up contamination at the Groton sub base if it were to close. Most of that has focused on the land, but the Thames River might also be affected.
Folks at Project Oceanology have been taking students up the Thames River since 1972, keeping a close eye on the river's water quality and the industry along it, like the sub base.
"Attention is being focussed on the conditions around the base," says Thaxter Tewksbury from Project Oceanology.
More specifically, contamination at the base and what it might mean for this river.
