Navy may tear down contaminated hangar

U.S. Navy officials said at a meeting in Mountain View this week that they have narrowed their Hangar 1 cleanup options to two, including what many observers consider the worst-case scenario: demolition. The surprise statements angered environmentalists and residents, who have been lobbying for years to clean up the historic structure and convert it into a museum.
