BNAS Added To Base Closure List

Members of the Base Realignment and Closure Commission have voted 8 to 1 
to add the Brunswick Naval Air Station to the list of bases targeted for 
closure.

The Pentagon recommends realigning BNAS -- leaving it open, but moving 
all of its planes to Florida. That would leave Brunswick as a military 
asset and take away the option of redeveloping the base. Commissioner 
James Bilbray called realignment "the worst of both worlds" for the 
community. In voting in favor of adding Brunswick for closure 
consideration, Bilbray said he would not vote for realignment.
