BRAC Commission to re-examine Pentagon’s DFAS consolidation plans

The independent base-closing commission voted Tuesday to re-examine a 
Pentagon plan to move thousands of Defense Finance and Accounting 
Service jobs, expressing some skepticism that Defense Department 
officials had thoroughly assessed the impact of the move.

The Pentagon plan would consolidate 26 DFAS offices into just three 
locations: Indianapolis; Denver; and Columbus, Ohio. But Defense Base 
Realignment and Closure Commission analysts told the panel on Tuesday 
that Pentagon analysts had analyzed costs and savings only for that 
option, and by a 9-0 vote, commissioners said they want to consider more 
scenarios.
