Devens landfill cleanup awaits final water testing BY KAREN MANN Lowell Sun (MA) August 12, 2005 SHIRLEY -- The ?pump-and-treat? system being used to clean water under Shepley's Hill landfill in Devens could be up and running this month, according to the head of the project. The system is ?getting close to being operational,? said Bob Simeone, the environmental coordinator for the Base Realignment and Closure agency. At last night's meeting of Devens Restoration Advisory Board in Shirley, Simeone said that final tests are being done in the coming weeks, the last of which will be an extraction test. This is slated to happen the week of Aug. 22. If all goes well, the pump-and-treat process will start a few days later, beginning a cleanup the environmental coordinator says could take decades. ...
