Defined plan urged for Stratford site Connecticut Post October 6, 2005 In all the murky discussions over the future of the Stratford Army Engine Plant, one fact remains clear: The town of Stratford needs to develop a clear and complete plan for the day, whenever it may be, that the U.S. Army turns the property over to the town. And that plan should be developed sooner rather than later. Stratford has been waiting for the Army to turn over the property since the plant closed in 1995. The site, which is comprised of 57 buildings and takes up 79 acres on lower Main Street, formerly manufactured turbine engines for Army tanks. It's a Housatonic River waterfront piece of property that would be most desirable ? if it weren't for the tremendous amount of pollution and soil contamination that is likely to be scattered across the site. ...
