Developers accentuate the positive Alliance urges outlook that sees BNAS closure as an opportunity, not a disaster Christopher Cousins Brunswick Times Record (ME) February 3, 2006 TOPSHAM - The chatter that surrounds the effort to redevelop Brunswick Naval Air Station could have a damaging effect on development unless the message gets out that the economy here continues to thrive despite the base closure. That was the theme Wednesday when a committee without a name met for the second time in its existence. The committee has no name because its members are still grappling with whether it should step into the public eye and join the "alphabet soup" of development organizations in the region or do its work on a behind-the-scenes basis. The group's agenda was printed under the working title "Midcoast Regional Development Alliance" (MRDMA), but some of its members said the development community doesn't need another organization to add to what is already a confusing landscape of local groups with acronyms like BEDC, MCBDP, TDI and MCED. And then there's the BLRA, the TLRA and the GAC - all newly formed since the announcement that BNAS will be closed by 2011. ...
