Mobilizing before base closes will make Brunswick a success story

For decades, the military personnel coming to Brunswick Naval Air Station have contributed greatly to the vibrancy of midcoast Maine.


Base personnel bring substantial diversity to this area, an impact that's as important as their economic influence. The families stationed here bring backgrounds that make our community dynamic. While hard to quantify, their presence certainly will be dearly missed.

Easier to quantify is the economic impact the base's closing will have. Based on the annual military and civilian personnel payroll, Maine can expect to see nearly $129 million of economic activity leave the state by the time the Brunswick Naval Air Station closes in 2011.
