Close look at BNAS closure Consultants offer upbeat prognosis for the redevelopment of the Navy base. Christopher Cousins Brunswick Times Record (ME) April 27, 2006 BRUNSWICK — The robust economy of the greater Brunswick region bodes well for the redevelopment of Brunswick Naval Air Station as long as the economy remains robust, a panel of base-closure experts told area civic and business leaders Wednesday. The experts project that there will be plenty of work for the people who will lose their jobs when the base closes in 2011 and there is ample early interest from business entities that are eyeing what some consider to be the premier piece of commercial real estate that's available in Maine: the 3,200-acre Brunswick Naval Air Station. But that doesn't mean the closure and redevelopment won't happen without casualties. The big question, the experts told a packed banquet hall at Captain Daniel Stone Inn on Wednesday, is exactly which industries will be affected and how much.
