Reserve center awaits orders The military facility set to close; government wants to hand it over for public use. By RON BARTIZEK Wilkes-Barre Times Leader (PA) May 22, 2006 PLAINS TWP. - The Department of Defense wants to give away the U.S. Army Reserve facility along Route 315, where citizen soldiers train and vehicles are stored. Will there be any takers? A classified ad published earlier this month invited expressions of interest in the 4-acre property, which includes three buildings that total 25,303 square feet. Preference is given to turning old facilities over for public-benefit uses, such as recreation or social services, said Lt. Col. Paul Burnham, 99th Regional Readiness Command Base Transition Coordinator. “The last thing that we would do is sell that property,” Burnham said, although that is the final option if no public application for it surfaces. ...
