hurricanes. - LS]Planning for federal city to gear up Retired Marine leads push to revamp base By Paul Purpura New Orleans Times-Picayune June 11, 2006 Two firms have been hired to jump-start the transformation of the Naval Support Activity's Algiers site into a federal campus for military and government agencies. The Algiers Development District board, which is providing money to the "federal city" project, recently hired Apogen Technologies to tap the work of one of its senior vice presidents, Maj. Gen. David Mize, who is chairman of the Mayor's Military Advisory Committee, said state Rep. Jim Tucker, R-Algiers, the ADD's chairman. Apogen was given a six-month, $46,000 consulting contract that will allow Mize, the retired Marine who voluntarily led the region's effort to retain a military presence, to oversee the campus's development, Tucker said. ...
