15 percent of Badger work completeBaraboo News Republic (WI) By Scott De Laruelle June 14, 2006 In the 1940s Badger Ordnance Works employees built thousands of structures and laid countless miles of pipe and wire for the massive facility that helped win World War II. Today, a small army of workers are slowly tearing it down — a significant challenge because many buildings have contamination and toxic construction materials that must be removed. Plant officials say safety and environmental concerns are keeping work at a slow, steady pace. Badger official Mike Sitton said demolition work is about 15 percent complete. More than 200 workers from SpecPro, the Army's demolition contractor, are dismantling the buildings, wiring and piping that run throughout the facility. ...
