Realtors aim to avoid market flood Real estate agents advise 'steady turnover' of military homes leading up to BNAS closure Seth Koenig Brunswick Times Record (ME) December 6, 2006 BATH - Al Austin, outgoing Cumberland County commissioner and a long-time area real estate agent, told the Governor's Advisory Council Tuesday that a steady turnover of military housing to the public - starting long before the Brunswick Naval Air Station closes in 2011 - might help avoid a market overflow. Austin - as well as Tom Cole, president-elect of the Merrymeeting Board of Realtors, and Rich Howard, who deals with housing on the naval base - visited the council Tuesday to discuss the potential repercussions of what has been described as upward of 2,000 housing units that will hit the market when Navy personnel leave the area. The advisory council is a panel charged with making recommendations for Gov. John Baldacci and the 123rd Legislature pertaining to the redevelopment efforts of the naval base. ...
