Another suitor for Concord Naval Weapons Station

The Concord Naval Weapons Station has another suitor -- or two.

Lennar Corp., a Miami-based home builder, and Tetra Tech, an engineering firm in Pasadena, are teaming up to try to acquire much-sought-after land at the mothballed military base.

This comes two months after the well-connected Shaw Group announced it wanted to acquire the base in exchange $1 billion in military construction projects elsewhere -- something the Navy says it needs in this wartime era.

Concord officials retain their previous position: They'll keep fighting a land sale until local planning efforts for the base are finished.

"The process is getting all out of whack," said Vice Mayor Bill Shinn.
