Arden Hills / City, feds sign deal on Army siteIf the $45 million sale of the former plant site goes through, development could begin by '08 BY MATT PEIKEN St. Paul Pioneer Press (MN) March 8, 2007Long discussed, debated and derailed, redevelopment of the Twin Cities Army Ammunition Plant has moved an important step past talk and toward action. The federal Government Services Administration has signed a $45 million purchase offer from the city of Arden Hills. Once the sale closes, the city would transfer ownership of the 585 acres — bordered by Interstate 35 and Highways 10 and 96 — to a company planning one of the most ambitious redevelopment projects recently undertaken in the metro area. "The Army wants to close as soon as September of this year, and we're working at a fast and furious pace to make that happen," said Karen Barton, community-development director for Arden Hills and a city point person on this project. CRR, a partnership of the Ryan and Glenn Rehbein development companies, has spent years working with Arden Hills officials on a mixed-use project that could include up to 2,400 homes, more than 3 million square feet of offices, a 40-acre wildlife corridor, 70 acres of athletic fields and 25 acres of open space and trails. ...
