Ingleside base plan begins to take shape
Group planning to request federal recognition for funds

After 1 1/2 years of wrangling among elected and appointed officials from Nueces and San Patricio counties, a group representing both counties' interests in Naval Station Ingleside had its first meeting Wednesday.

The Ingleside Local Redevelopment Authority next week plans to request recognition from the Defense Department to redevelop 155 acres of base property when the Navy leaves, a result of the 2005 Base Realignment and Closure round. Departure is expected by Sept. 30, 2010.

The eight-member group, proposed by the Ingleside City Council, includes two appointees each from the cities of Ingleside and Corpus Christi and the two counties. The Port of Corpus Christi was offered a seat but declined on Aug. 14 to participate.
