"We are still very early in the process," said Joe Aguirre, a spokesman for SunCal Companies, the developer selected to oversee reuse of the decommissioned base. Aguirre said the firm would know more once various studies are completed. The Navy has not issued an estimate of how much it would cost, or how long it would take to decontaminate the sprawling 2,000-acre base.
