BRAC spin-off business could benefit community By Karen Middleton Athens News Courier (AL) December 17, 2007 Public Works Director James Rich told the Athens City Council Monday that the community should organize to snare a portion of the estimated 5,000 spin-off jobs resulting from Base Realignment and Closure. BRAC is expected to bring 4,000 jobs to Redstone Arsenal over the next five years, but officials estimate related contractors would require another 5,000 employees. Rich attended a Regional Growth workshop presented by the Office of Economic Adjustment, a Department of Defense agency. He said representatives of several communities from Maryland, to Colorado to Texas discussed how they were changed by previous BRAC moves. ...
