RESCISSION UPDATE The House Appropriations Committee has completed action on a Supplemental Defense Appropriation for Fiscal Year 1995. The bill, which may see action on the House floor next week (as early as February 22), would reduce the current year's funding for Defense Environmental Restoration by $150 million. The Appropriators chose a figure, after the cut, of $1,620 million, essentially the same as the President's proposed FY 96 DERA budget. Critics of the Supplemental bill are planning to introduce modifying amendments, but at this time it is not known whether the Defense cleanup reductions will be challenged. Once the House approves the legislation, the Senate Appropriations Committee will take it up. Senate support for the House reductions is NOT a foregone conclusion. |
