Subject: | $500 MILLION DERA HIT LIST |
The Defense Department has put together a "hit list" describing the impact of cuts in the Defense Environmental Restoration Account (DERA). The list shows projects likely to be impacted by the FY95 $300 million rescission plus the $200 million reduction proposed by the House National Security Committee. The 25-page document details project amounts at each base, but it will be some time before I can identify, list, and post the major sites (as I've done with earlier hit lists.) Here is the summary: A. Eliminate legally required funding for the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (ATSDR) $10 Million B. Proportionate reduction in management and workyears $20 Million C. Reduce Defense State Memorandum of Agreement (DSMOA) funding to 1% of program $7 Million D. Delay paying potentially Responsible Party (PRP) bills $18 Million E. Cut all Remedial Investigation/Feasibility Study (RI/FS) projects at low, medium, and not evaluated relative risk sites $130 Million F. Cut cleanup projects in the low and not evaluated relative risk categories $109 Million G. Cut remedial actions in the medium relative risk category at non-National Priority List (NPL) bases and NPL bases where the project was first cut due to FY1995 rescission $186 million H Cut Preliminary Assessment/Site Investigation (PA/SI) projects in the low and medium relative risk categories $21 million | |
