From: Gawain Kripke <gkripke@Essential.ORG> ****** ANNOUNCING ******* GREEN SCISSORS '96 -- a report targeting wasteful and environmentally harmful spending and subsidies -- is now available on the world wide web. The full text of Green Scissors '96, which was released February 15 nationwide, can be found at http://www.foe.org/FOE. The report targets 47 programs and subsidies that could save taxpayers $39 billion if eliminated. These include energy, public lands, water, agriculture, highways, foreign aid and insurance programs. GREEN SCISSORS '96 is the product of a collaboration between taxpayer groups and environmentalists called the Green Scissors campaign. Led by Friends of the Earth, Taxpayers for Common $ense and the U.S. Public Interest Research Group, the Green Scissors campaign includes more than 20 other groups like the Concord Coalition, American Lung Association, and Sierra Club. Green Scissors '96 was also released by local groups in dozens of states, many of whom are fighting unwanted federal projects in their backyards. The web posting of GREEN SCISSORS '96 provides links to activists and relevant web sites. The web site will be updated frequently.
