Subject: | Tooele Community Cancer Study __******************** |
From: "Hughart, Joe" <jxh8@ATSOAA1.EM.CDC.GOV> Subject: Tooele Community Cancer Study ******************** PETIONING ATSDR FOR HEALTH ASSESSMENTS & STUDIES AT SUPERFUND SITES I received the following message in reponse to an article we published in our newsletter, "Citizens Report on the Military and the Environment", and posted to this conference. This may be of help to other communities that are in the proximity of Superfund sites. Aimee Houghton ************* Thanks for the information about the Tooele Depot community cancer study in the April 1996 edition of "Military and the Environment". Tooele Depot is a Superfund site. The Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry is required under the Superfund law to conduct public health assessments, and if necessary, health studies, at Superfund sites such as Tooele Depot. Unfortunately, ATSDR does not have the resources to conduct assessments at all Superfund sites at once, so we have had to prioritize the sites for assessment and further study. If anyone would like ATSDR to place the Tooele Depot site in a higher prioritiy category for further assessment and health studies, they may do so by sending a petition for a public health assessment to the following address: Barry L. Johnson, Ph.D. Assistant Administrator, ATSDR Mailstop E28 1600 Clifton Road Atlanta, GA 30333 phone (404) 639-0700, fax (404) 639-0744. Thanks. - Joe Hughart, Deputy Director, Office of Federal Programs, ATSDR. | |
