Subject: | RANGE RULE INFO |
From: Lenny Siegel <lsiegel@igc.org> RANGE RULE INFO The Defense Department has issued a fact sheet describing the number of facilities that it thinks may potentially be affected by the Range Rule that it is developing. Later I hope to provide more detail, but for now here are regional totals. The fact sheet also tabulates the number of active bases - which may include former ranges - but it does not estimate the number of those ranges. FUDS* BRAC** Northeastern U.S. 163 3 Southeastern U.S. 103 4 Central United States 239 6 Western United States 212 9 * formerly used defense sites that potentially contain ordnance ** closing or realigning military bases with ranges The Defense Department has tentatively scheduled four regional meetings to hear public comments on its to-be-proposed Range Rule. The dates and locations (subject to change) are: September 4, 1996. Baltimore, Maryland. September 11, Jacksonville, Florida. September 18. Kansas City, Missouri. September 25. Reno, Nevada There are several ways to contact the Department of Defense Range Rule Information Center: Address: Department of Defense Range Rule P.O.
