From: Dar Rudnyckyj <rudy@igc.org> Subject: Global Green Forum, Indianapolis 12/11/96 ****** WARNING: THIS IS A LONG FILE ***** ******************************************************************************** Dear Friends: I would like to invite you to attend the first Global Green USA ChemTrust regional forum on the U.S. chemical weapons (CW) demilitarization program to be held in Indiana on December 11. The forum, "Chemical Weapons Cleanup in Indiana," is intended to create greater understanding and consensus concerning the destruction of the CW stockpile at Newport. The forum is planned to closely follow the Pentagon's recommendation of an alternative technology for CW destruction. The day will also explore non-stockpile chemical weapons cleanup at Crane Naval Weapons Center and Camp Atterbury and the sustainable conversion of military bases with these problems. ChemTrust, a joint project of Global Green USA, Green Cross Russia, and Green Cross Switzerland, is committed to facilitating the dialogue necessary to ensure safe, cost- effective, and environmentally sound destruction of CW. The first ChemTrust policy workshop was held July 23-24 in Washington, DC and brought together senior U.S. and Russian military and government officials, scientists and industry representatives, state environmental regulatory agencies, Members of Congress and their staff, and citizens from the eight U.S. stockpile states. The workshop addressed the program, policy, and technical options of the U.S. and Russian chemical weapons destruction programs. For the first time all stakeholders engaged in a productive exchange, accelerating the process of building consensus on CW destruction technology. A report from that meeting and a list of participants is available. The forum will be held in the Indiana Government Center South, Conference Center Room C in Indianapolis beginning at 8:30 AM. Please find attached a draft agenda. Registration is $150 for representatives of government and industry and $20 (to cover food costs) for others. Please RSVP to 202-879-3184 to register. The fee is payable at the door or in advance by mailing a check (payable to Gobal Green USA) to our DC office. Scholarships are available. Space is limited, so please reserve by December 6 to ensure your participation. We hope that you will be able to join us. Sincerely, Paul F. Walker, Ph.D. Director, ChemTrust ******************************************************************************** Draft Agenda, 12-3-96, subject to further confirmation Global Green USA Legacy Program Presents CHEMICAL WEAPONS CLEANUP IN INDIANA A ChemTrust Forum sponsored by the Global Green USA Legacy Program with the assistance of the Office of the Governor, the Department of Environmental Management, and the State Emergency Management Agency State of Indiana WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 11, 1996, 8:30AM-5:15PM Indiana Government Center South Conference Center Room C 402 W.
