Administration holds up Homestead AFB Transfer

The Clinton Administration will hold up transfer of 
Homestead Air Force Base to Dade Co. FL "pending more environmental 
reviews," National Journal's Congress Daily says.
Environmental groups object to transferring the land for use as a new 
commercial airport because of the potential impact of development on 
the nearby Everglades and Biscayne National parks, Congress Daily 
reports. The Administration is willing to transfer the runway, but 
"wants to do another environmental analysis before transferring the 
rest of the base to the county for commercial development associated 
with the airport."
