Subject: | Getting Superfund Reauthorization Updates |
For Citizen Activists Working on DOE and DOD Cleanup Issues For many years people have been telling you Congress was going to reauthorize Superfund "soon." It looks as if that may be true some time in this Congress. There is about an 85 percent chance of a Superfund bill ultimately seeing floor action in both the House and the Senate, and almost that strong a chance of actual legislation passing next year. The first committee markups may be in September. As you know, Superfund is one of the major drivers for cleanup at DOE and DOD sites. The Superfund bills are likely to have federal facilities provisions. Jacqueline Hamilton of the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) is one of the few persons in the environmental community who tracks Superfund issues. She is the only one who does it full time. She is now sending out regular e-mail updates and alerts to a network of community activists. If you would like Jacqueline to add you to her e-mail list, contact her at <jhamilton@nrdc.org> with your name, organization, address, phone, fax, and e-mail. For those of you who have been standing on the Superfund sidelines, now is the time to weigh in. | David Culp | E-mail: dculp@nrdc.org | | Plutonium Challenge | Tel. +1 (202) 289-2388 | | Washington, D.C. | Fax +1 (202) 289-1060 | | |
