Subject: | Treatment Technologies for DNT in Soil |
Please post and distribute widely. Other than the obvious (incineration, composting, etc.), does anyone know of any innovative treatment technologies for soil contaminated with 2,4- and 2,6-dinitrotoluene? Badger Army Ammunition Plant has a site where the vadose zone is contaminated down to groundwater, which is located at a depth of 110 feet bgs. The depth to bedrock is 250 feet bgs, and the soils are glaciofluvial (primarily sands and gravels). The Army's contractors are planning a meeting with the regulators at the end of October to discuss options. Reportedly insitu treatment technologies are desirable. Any input would be greatly appreciated... Incidentally, we will be sharing responses with the community, regulatory agencies and the facility. If you do not want to be identified please note this in your response. Thanks!
