Subject: | Non-stoskpile Chemical Weapons |
The Army is currently developing a programmatic approach to deal with the disposal of non-stockpile chemical weapons. The Army defines non-stockpile chemical weapons to include buried chemical weapons, chemical weapons training material such as chemical agent identification sets (CAIS), chemical weapons that have leaked into and contaminated soil, former chemical weapons production facilities and binary chemical weapons. The Chemical Weapons Working Group, (CWWG), a coalition of grassroots organizations near chemical weapons stockpile sites, is helping to form a coalition of groups and individuals that will provide the Army with insight and oversight on non-stockpile chemical weapons. The coalition has already had one preliminary meeting with the head of the Army's Non-stockpile Chemical Materiel Program, Col. Ned Libby, as well as the Program's Public Affairs Officer and Technical Manager. The CWWG is pushing for safe disposal of non-stockpile weapons and public participation in the decision making process. If you live, work or are effected by a non-stockpile chemical weapons site, think you may be, or are just interested in the issue, please contact: Elizabeth Crowe CWWG P.O. 467 Berea, KY 40403 (606) 986-0868 e-mail: kefcrowe@acs.eku.edu | |
