HEAT SETS OFF UXO I picked up the following AP news brief in the July 25, 1998 San Jose Mercury News. - LS Hot weather sets off 4 old bombs in Vietnam HANOI (AP) -- A weeklong heat wave in central Vietnam caused four war-era bombs to explode, including a napalm device that destroyed 75 acres of forest, police said Friday. No casualties were reported. The temperature was 104 degrees when the napalm bomb went off Monday, police in Quang Tri province said. Firefighters spent more than four hours putting out the blaze that followed. Three other bombs detonated from the heat Tuesday in fields in the provincial town of Dong Ha, police said. Millions of war-era bombs remain scattered about the Vietnamese countryside.
