CPEO: Regarding "A TRIUMPH OF TEAMWORK," the Air Force in fact ignored the treatment proposal for the Massachusetts Military Reserevation base landfill plume which, following months of discussion, was recommended by a team of citizens and regulators set up to advise the Air Force. Instead of a more expensive pump-and-treat system, the Air Force fought tooth and nail to have the plume addressed with "natural attenuation," which meant not addressing it at all. The Cape Cod Times editorial mentioned below was based on the spin put into an earlier news story created for the Times by base propaganda officers. It's a false account of what really happened. The military merely "cooperated" with the few people it could convince to agree with it - people who did not want pump and treat systems in their neighborhood - and these people were called "the community."
