Subject: | [CPEO-MEF] Perchlorate salts |
Some one was asking about perchlorate a while back? See Albuquerque Journal - Ian Hoffman, Staff Writer March 25, 2K Pg E3 "Potential Explosive Builds at LANL" Seems the Chemistry and Metallurgy Research building relies on network of ducts, fans and filters to draw radioactive materials and chemicals away from workers and the publlic. If the system had worked as designed, built and equipped in the 1950s with washdown systems to regularly rise out the ducts, no percholate would build up in the ducts. But over 20 years ago the ducts rusted and clogged and were never repaired or replaced. Some emplyees were still performing perchlorate acid fumining in early 1999. Now the Admin is asking for $14 million to finish renovation of the building. Swabs of the ductwork so far show perchlorate below the explovive level.
