http://wire.ap.org/APnews/center_story.html?FRONTID=3DASIA&STORYID=3DAPIS742= K39G0 APRIL 25, 02:56 EDT=20 U.S. Military Waste Worries Japan=20 By JOSEPH COLEMAN=20 Associated Press Writer=20 YOKOHAMA, Japan (AP) =97 On a U.S. Army dock south of Tokyo lies the latest irritant between the American military and its Japanese hosts: 100 tons of toxic waste.=20 The PCB-laden garbage, including transformers, circuit breakers, oil and other debris, was generated by U.S. bases in Japan and shipped out in late March to a recycling plant in Canada.=20 Now the waste is back =97 and many Japanese aren't happy about it.=20 The shipment was refused by Canada and dockworkers in Seattle, and was met with demonstrations when it arrived in Yokohama on April 18. The waste led to daylong TV news broadcasts and political protests.=20 The refuse will be stored in Japan for up to a month and then shipped elsewhere.
