>From GNET Web site http://www.gnet.org/Coldfusion/News_Page2.cfm?NewsID=10074 Federal Facilities Get Compliance Report Card EarthVision Environmental News 05/01/00 WASHINGTON, May 1, 2000 - A report on the environmental compliance record of federal government facilities throughout the United States has been published and is available to the public. The US Environmental Protection Agency's The State of Federal Facilities: An Overview of Environmental Compliance at Federal Facilities, FY 1997-98 report provides a breakdown of compliance rates at federal facilities regulated by environmental laws. It shows, for example, that from FY 1993 to FY 1998, hazardous waste compliance increased by about 33 percent, while Clean Water Act compliance exhibits a steady decline, from 94.2 percent to 61.5 percent. Safe Drinking Water Act compliance fluctuated but remained high (above 90 percent), as did Clean Air Act compliance (between 84 and 90 percent). After a low in FY 1994, Toxic Substances and Control Act (TSCA) compliance rebounded and has remained at 100 percent for the past four years. The report also compares compliance at federal facilities to private sector facilities and is available at: http://es.epa.gov/oeca/fedfac/soff9798.pdf or by calling the National Service Center for Environmental Publications at 1-800-490-9198.
