Oz: An entertainment venture or a real estate opportunity?

Rep. John Ballou's biggest fear isn't that the Wonderful World of Oz theme
park and resort gets built.

He fears it won't.
 
Jackie Hosey/The DeSoto Explorer The Sunflower Ammunition Plant is going
through the cleanup process required before ownership of the 9,000 acres
can be transferred.

In addition, he fears the announcement won't be made until after the land,
cleaned by the federal government to rid it of the contaminants caused by a
World War II ammunition plant there, is turned over to Oz free of charge.

"They'll have this cleaned-up land and they will develop it out," he said.
"I have a problem with us giving them the land and letting them make a
whole lot of money off developing it.
