Japanese Concerned Uranium Casings

TOKYO (AP) - Japanese officials said Wednesday they were concerned that
depleted-uranium ammunition casings disposed by the U.S. military as scrap
iron were emitting radioactivity that could harm humans.

The local government of Okinawa prefecture has asked the U.S. military to
investigate the casings at a private scrap yard, and to ascertain how they
were handled, said local official Yoshito Yamada.
