http://www.rockymountainnews.com/news/1024gas7.shtml State seeks assurances on nerve-gas destruction By Berny Morson, Denver Rocky Mountain News Staff Writer State officials pressed the Army on Monday for assurances that blowing up a sarin nerve gas "bomblet" at Rocky Mountain Arsenal will be safe. The Army and a federal board that advises the government on stray munitions last week recommended blowing up the bomblet, which was discovered in a pile of scrap metal at the defunct arsenal. The plan calls for the bomblet to be detonated with an explosion so massive that the heat will destroy the 1.3 pounds of deadly sarin inside. State officials have not rejected the plan but are not ready to sign off on it, said Howard Roitman, head of the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment's hazardous materials division. Roitman said the state wants to know more about the Army's claims that stray munitions have been blown up in other parts of the country.
