Subject: | [CPEO-MEF] More on "encroachment" |
Hello all: Many people know about the hearing held by the Senate Armed Services Committee Subcommittee on Readiness and Management Support in March on so-called "encroachment" of communities and species on military training ranges. In May, the House Government Reform Committee and Armed Services Committee have also taken up this issue. There seems to be a full-scale attack in progress on the Endangered Species Act in particular, driven by some combination of military concerns and the desire of some Republicans to gut the ESA. The issue was also covered in the May 22, 2001 Defense Environment Alert. Various links follow.
