Activists Release Fallon Cancer Survey Results Frank X. Mullen Jr. RENO GAZETTE-JOURNAL 12/30/2002 Health activists released the results of a Fallon cancer survey late Monday, saying it proves more investigation is needed into whether other disease spikes exist in addition to the town’s well-documented childhood leukemia cluster. The survey of 3,379 Fallon residents, about half the town's population, has not been analyzed to determine whether the findings show cancer rates beyond what would be expected. State health officials have said that aside from the 16 children diagnosed with leukemia since 1997, Churchill County has no other high incidences of cancers. While the unofficial survey was under way in October, state health officials also questioned the reliability of whatever data would come from the effort because scientific methods weren’t being followed.
