Subject: | Re: [CPEO-MEF] RAB Question - Distant RAB Members |
Regarding the following question about distant RAB members posted anonymously, Can a few people respond with examples of sites where one or more RAB members are not located directly in or adjacent to the site in question? Supporting info (such as 25 miles away) would be helpful. ____________________________________________________________________ Saul Bloom and ARC Ecology in San Francisco serve on many RABs more than 25 miles from ARC staffs place of residence or ARC's offices. The Citizen Advisory Boards for DOE sites, such as the Hanford Advisory Board in Eastern Washington State, has members from Oregon and I believe Idaho and more distant states as well. RABS and the DOD should welcome citizens with interest no matter where they live - after all DOD facilities are Federal facilities - not local facilities. Often the most vocal, or worse, secretive, opposition to distant members comes from local governments who jealously guard local control. However, local governments are often anxious to put developers on RABS who are not local residents - this has happened in practice, if not officially, at the Alameda Naval Air Station. For more, suggest you contact either Dale Smith, who sits on the Alameda Naval Air Station RAB for the Sierra Club, or Lea who sits on the same RAB, and others, for ARC Ecology. You can reach Lea at Lea 415-495-1786. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ | |
