California Residents balk at Hunters Point shipyard plan BY TIFFANY MALESHEFSKI Special to The Examiner A plan outlining an optimistic future for the contaminated Hunters Point Naval Shipyard was too good to be true for people living next to the controversial site. "This plan does nothing for the community," said Lynne Brown, the Bayview representative for Communities for a Better Environment, a nonprofit environmental organization. Brown and numerous other Bayview residents, who gathered last week to review the plan, believe their concerns are being overlooked by the multimillion-dollar redevelopment plan touted as a golden opportunity for a neighborhood renaissance. Residents want the shipyard plan to be successful, Brown said, but years of empty promises and pipe dreams have made locals skeptical.
