Residents balk at Hunters Point shipyard plan

A plan outlining an optimistic future for the contaminated Hunters Point
Naval Shipyard was too good to be true for people living next to the
controversial site.

"This plan does nothing for the community," said Lynne Brown, the
Bayview representative for Communities for a Better Environment, a
nonprofit environmental organization.

Brown and numerous other Bayview residents, who gathered last week to
review the plan, believe their concerns are being overlooked by the
multimillion-dollar redevelopment plan touted as a golden opportunity
for a neighborhood renaissance.

Residents want the shipyard plan to be successful, Brown said, but years
of empty promises and pipe dreams have made locals skeptical.
