California THE SACRAMENTO BEE Depot gets deadline for report By Jane Braxton Little -- Bee Correspondent Published 2:15 a.m. PDT Tuesday, May 13, 2003 HERLONG -- Sierra Army Depot has until June 6 to submit information to state officials or risk denial of its application to burn and blast obsolete munitions. James M. Pappas, chief of the land disposal branch of the California Department of Toxic Substances Control, told base commander Col. Paul R. Plemmons the depot has had ample time to provide the documents needed to decide whether to issue a permit allowing detonation and combustion of out-of-date ordnance in the open hills above the base. Depot officials said Monday they expect to meet the deadline despite extensive requirements that include revision of a 2000 draft environmental report.
