Subject: | [CPEO-MEF] Park gains more land |
Massachusetts THE HINGHAM JOURNAL Park gains more land By Carol Britton Meyer / cmeyer@cnc.com Wednesday, July 2, 2003 Wompatuck State Park will soon expand by 125 acres. The added recreational space is sure to please residents, naturalists, and others who bike, jog, walk, and hike there. The parcel to be added, a former ammunitions facility of the Cohasset Naval Annex which is currently controlled by the Army, is located at the end of Leavitt Street. An environmental cleanup of the "Hingham Annex" was recently completed, paving the way for the property to become part of the state park system under the Department of Environmental Management (DEM). The Department of Environmental Protection will review the final documents associated with the cleanup. The property must remain parkland. "This is a good example of federal, state, and private cooperation," said Selectman Mathew MacIver.
